⚡ The Bottom Line
Rogue is the premier PvP class — world PvP, duels, Battlegrounds, Arena. Open from stealth, stun the target for 10 seconds, they either die or you Vanish and reset. In raids, Rogue struggles to match Mage or Warrior DPS, and the community is honest about this. The new abilities — Smoke Bomb (AoE miss chance cloud), Mark for Death (party damage amp), Surprise Attack (unblockable strike) — give Rogue genuine utility beyond the stunlock. Play it for the fantasy, not the metres.
🐢 Turtle WoW Changes — What's Different
- Surprise Attack (Combat, new) — 10 energy, deals 90% weapon damage. Cannot be blocked, dodged or parried. Awards 1 combo point. Uninterruptable damage ability — fills a gap in Combat's toolkit.
- Smoke Bomb (Subtlety, new) — 5-minute CD, 35 energy. Creates a cloud of thick smoke in 8-yard radius for 8 seconds. All targets inside have 20% reduced hit chance for attacks and spells. Area denial PvP ability.
- Mark for Death (Subtlety, new) — 3-minute CD, 40 energy. Deals 135% weapon damage and increases party damage to target by 15% for 6 seconds. Awards 2 combo points. Rare Rogue support ability.
- Dust of Disappearance (Subtlety, new) — 2-minute CD, 25 energy, 30-yard range. Throw at a friendly player — reduces their threat by 20% and reduces enemy detection of their presence for 5 seconds. Unique party utility.
- Deadly and Corrosive Poison buffed — Now gains damage equal to 2% of Attack Power per tick, equalling 8% AP for the full duration per stack. Poison DPS scales with gear now.
- Disguise skill added — Rogues have a unique Disguise ability for world exploration and roleplay utility. Details on the forum.
🌳 The Specs
Sustained melee DPS with Adrenaline Rush for burst. Surprise Attack fills gaps. Sword or mace specialisation. Combat is the workhorse spec — not the flashiest but most consistent. Community says raid DPS 'still struggles vs Mage or Warrior' but usable.
Premeditation + Hemorrhage + Smoke Bomb. Stealth master. Open with Cheap Shot, stunlock, Smoke Bomb if they have a healer nearby, finish. Mark for Death adds party utility. Weakest out of stealth but strongest opener in the game.
Poison damage now scales with 8% AP per application. Mutilate build at endgame. Dissolvant Poison build is reportedly strong but likely to see nerves.

⚒️ Best Professions
Herbalism + Alchemy is the most recommended Rogue combination — self-sufficient potion supply is critical since Rogue has no self-heal. Thistle Tea (trainable Rogue-only item) combined with Alchemy provides Rogues with the most control over their own energy management. Engineering is the PvP alternative — Goblin Sapper, Flash Bombs (interrupt), stun grenades all complement the Rogue toolkit. Leatherworking is an alternative for crafting your own gear upgrades — Rogue wears leather throughout the entire game.
💬 Community Tips
"Rogues need actual defensive tools. Smoke Bomb helps but what Rogues really need is Cloak of Shadows or Shadowstep. Until then, if you can't kill in the opener, expect to die. It's basically a lottery at that point."
"Mark for Death is underrated. 15% party damage increase on a target for 6 seconds — that's a meaningful support ability that Rogues never had before. In 5-man content this genuinely helps."
"The stunlock is still the stunlock. Cheap Shot (2s) → Gouge (4.5s) → Kidney Shot (5s at 5CP). That's 11.5 seconds of CC. If your target doesn't die or trinket in that window, something went wrong."
